The adverse impact of the lockdown to fight the pandemic of COVID-19 on the industrial units established in the UT needs hardly to be emphasised which needs to be looked into by the UT Government is, what Bari Brahmana Industrial Association has demanded. It has appealed to the Lieutenant Governor to defer the payments of the power tariff bills and also waive off the minimum charges/ demand charges for closed and working units. It may be noted that many working units are engaged in manufacturing essential commodities and their supply chains needed to be kept going. On the other hand, majority of those units not manufacturing essential commodities find it difficult to pay the electric bills. Circulation of sale proceeds from the buyers and non payment to suppliers of raw material having greatly suffered, the entrepreneurs find it difficult under such circumstances to clear power bills.
While we endorse the demand of the Unit holders to provide them some relief to tide over their current cash crunch, at the same time some more measures needed to be taken by the UT Government in ensuring that units did not become sick and suffer to an extent of some of them feeling difficult to keep their manufacturing process going on smoothly once the lockdown was lifted. We hope that the UT Government would examine the issue sympathetically and take a favourable decision in favour of the concerned units.
