BJP dares Mulayam to withdraw support to UPA as true Lohiaite

CHITRAKOOT, MP, Apr 4: Intensifying its attack on Mulayam Singh Yadav, BJP today dared him to withdraw support to the UPA government if he was a true Lohiaite and ridiculed the SP chief for asking party workers to bag maximum Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh.
“Dr Ram Manohar Lohia would have not tolerated corruption. I say that if Mulayam is a follower of Lohia then he should take action to pull down the UPA government. Why is he tolerating corruption? After all the government depends on him,” BJP national vice-president Uma Bharati said.
She was addressing the valedictory session of a two-day state executive meeting of BJP here.
“Lohia used to say that politics is a short term religion and religion is long term politics,” she said.
She also said that if Mulayam praises veteran BJP leader L K Advani it is due to his personality. “The personality of Advaniji and Atalji is such that everyone praises them.”
Bharati said SP knows very well that it would not come to power in Uttar Pradesh again and if it fails to establish its supremacy in Lok Sabha polls then the party is finished.
“We have to crush SP’s dream that it will form a Third Front and win maximum seats in the state,” she said.
Mulayam had yesterday asked party workers to be ready for Lok Sabha polls any time and win the maximum number of seats in Uttar Pradesh so that SP could play a “major role” in government formation at the Centre.
Bharati’s fresh attack on Mulayam came a day after she dubbed him as a “pseudo Lohiaite.”
“Mulayam Singh Yadav in no way is the representative of Lohia. The manner in which he ran the government is totally opposite to the ideology of Lohia therefore he is a pseudo Lohiaite,” she had said.
Bharati alleged that the there was threat from leaders, who with an eye on the vote bank politics, follow policies which weaken the country.
“There is a threat from those who dabble in vote bank politics. They adopt policies which may fulfil their political ambitions, but weaken the country,” she said.
BJP leader said if the party has to come to power at the Centre, then UP has the potential to make its destiny.
“We have to win at least 40 seats (out of 80) in UP and people believe that only BJP can replace Congress. When BJP forms the government then maximum MPs should be from UP,” she said.
Bharati said that in UP assembly election people voted SP to power because there was no other option before them.
“There was a general feeling that BSP should not come back. They looked towards us, but we failed to meet their expectations. So, they voted in favour of SP,” she said.
Playing the Bundelkhand card, the BJP leader said a lot of money came for the development of the area, but 80 per cent of it lapsed.
“Though the region is rich in resources, local people are forced to work as labourers in other states. Only BJP can resolve the problem,” she said.
Bharati also said that only a BJP-led government can make India a military and economic superpower. (PTI)
