JAMMU, Apr 4: Minister for Higher Education, Mohammad Akbar Lone today informed the Legislative Assembly that the BEd Colleges, which could not fulfill University Grants Commission (UGC) norms would be closed.
Responding to the point raised by CPM MLA, Mohd Yousaf Tarigami during Zero Hour, Mr Lone said, “Government is very much serious to encourage the private players in education sector to provide better education facilities to the students at their door step. However, violation of procedural norms fixed by the UGC for quality education would not be tolerated”.
He disclosed that an Advisor has been engaged to look into the matter and submit report so that Government comes to know whether all the BEd Colleges were strictly adhering to the laid down parameters. “The exercise will be completed within two-three months and any college not meeting the parameters will be closed”, Mr Lone said.
Earlier, CPM MLA, while raising the issue, said that majority of the private colleges have become money minting machines and not ensuring even job security to the staff members.
