JAMMU, Apr 17: Former Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader, Kavinder Gupta today said that after the Union Government decision to extend nationwide lockdown up to May 3rd, 2020, it has become necessary for privileged sections of society to take care of under privileged people in society like daily wage labourers, the homeless population, beggars, slum-dwellers, several low-income groups as well as the elderly persons who live alone.
Continuing with the donations today Kavinder Gupta, who was accompanied by Vinay Gupta, Ankush Gupta, Sharda Devi, Dalbir Singh, Rakesh Sarangal and Vivek Patyal dispatched grocery and other utility items to JMC Ward-47 in Gandhi Nagar constituency.
The funds were provided for the grocery items by Rajat Mahajan, Area Sales Manager, Kolortek Paints. Kavinder while complimenting him said, “as we enter the lockdown 2nd phase it is becoming increasingly evident that the true challenge for such people won’t be to evade the Coronavirus but just to get enough food to stay alive”. Most informal sector workers, who do not have any job right now and are perhaps stuck in a city where they are migrant labourers and therefore have no home face problems to feed themselves and their families.
Although Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman has announced a relief package of Rs 1.7 lakh crore to help the poor of the country to navigate through these bad times. However, State and Central Government efforts alone will not be enough. Therefore, it is important, for citizens, civic bodies, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) as well as industry leaders, to come forward to help the marginalized sections. So far, some NGOs, business men, Government employees and trusts have shown great enterprise and tried to ease the distress of marginalized individuals during the lockdown, but we need to understand the situation and every privileged person should come forward for the noble cause, appealed Gupta.
He also appealed to the public to adopt at least one family in the neighbourhood who are under deprived and can’t afford food and other essentials.
Meanwhile Kavinder Gupta was contacted by many parents of students for taking up issue of provision of effective E-Classes or Online Classes. Parents of the children brought to the notice of Gupta that, the schools within Jammu are affiliated either with CBSE or JKBOSE but every other school has set curriculum of their own choice of different publications. They demanded that the necessary guideline may be issued to the concerned private schools to send at least E-books link to students so that they can study at home during the lockdown period.
