LEH, Apr 18: On the directions of the Lieutenant Governor, R.K. Mathur, Health Department of Ladakh has started a Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) to cater to medical needs of the people across the Ladakh UT.
The MMU was today flagged off by the Lieutenant Governor from Raj Niwas.
A handout stated that two teams of the MMU comprised 8 specialist doctors of SNM Hospital, Leh.
Commissioner/ Secretary Health, Rigzin Samphel; Director Health, Ladakh, Phuntsog Angchuk and CMO, Leh Motup Dorjey were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion the LG said that the MMU will not only help to provide medical services of specialist doctors to the people in their villages but would facilitate the Health Department to track all the areas for COVID-19 screening.
He emphasized for focusing on far-flung areas like Changthang, Zanskar, Trans Singge-la and similar areas in Kargil district where people do not get enough coverage.
The LG further said that pro-activeness of Director Health, CMO Leh and the entire team of doctors and health workers will ensure health services for all and help control the spread of novel Coronavirus.
Meanwhile, President and vice president of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP)’s of Leh unit, Dorjey Motup and Tashi Gyaltson today called on Lieutenant Governor Mathur, here at Raj Niwas.
The delegation requested the Lieutenant Governor for the evacuation of stranded pilgrims, patients and students of Ladakh from the different parts of India in phase manner and thereafter from Jammu and Srinagar.
They suggested evacuation of the distress patients at first, followed by pilgrims and students via road transport. They assured full support to the administration in tackling various issues after the stranded Ladakhis come back to home.
The delegation also requested him for helping in agricultural activities.
