JAMMU, Apr 19: Commissioner Secretary, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Ajeet Kumar Sahu today reviewed de-silting, cleaning of main canals of Kathua and Tawi.
During the visit, Commissioner Secretary inspected the de-silting and cleanliness work completed at various places including Bari Brahmana, Vijaypur, Tawi Canal, Samba, Ramnagar, Kathua, Ujj canal and Lakhanpur Lifting Station.
On this occasion, Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Controls (I&FC) Ashok Kumar Sharma informed Mr. Sahu that around 4500 acres of agriculture land get irrigated by these canals. Besides 4500 villages also receive water coming through these canals.
The Commissioner-Secretary also interacted with local representatives of various areas and sought their opinion regarding the cleanliness of canals. Peoples expressed their satisfaction over the work done on the canals.
Sahu also instructed the concerned to take necessary steps to stop and clear encroachments, if any, along the banks of various canals. He urged upon the officers to engage more men and machinery to complete the work where required for prop up cleaning of canals before water is released.
The Commissioner Secretary also appealed the people to not throw garbage in canals.
Superintending Engineer, Ravi-Tawi Irrigation Complex, Hemant Manchanda and other Engineers and officers were present on the occasion.
