MLAs raise drug issue in Assembly

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Apr 4: The supply of sub standard drugs by the Department of Health Services, Kashmir to Government hospitals figured in the Legislative Assembly today.
Excelsior had in its today’s edition exclusively reported the supply of drugs containing zero per cent anti-biotic Amoxicillin instead of 500 milligrams claimed by the Company.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, NC MLA and former Minister Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal said the drugs have been found containing zero salt.
“A local Company has supplied the drugs. I won’t name the Company here but its drugs should be banned till the matter was investigated,’’ Dr Kamaal said.
Speaker Mubarak Gul said he has already directed the Government for action.
Independent MLA Engineer Rashid had raised the issue in the Assembly earlier during the Question Hour.
Mr Rashid said the medicines supplied in the Government hospitals have been tested as sub standard.
“This has posed threat to lives of the patients. The Government shall give a statement in the House as to who had allotted contract to the company,’’ he demanded.
Mr Gul asked the Government to make a statement on the issue at the appropriate time.
