JAMMU, Apr 5: The State has over 1.80 lakh acres of evacuee’s property land in the state, of which nearly 70,000 acres was in Jammu.
Relying to a question from NC legislator, Master Noor Hussain, in the Legislative Council here today, Minister of State for Revenue, Ajaz Ahmad Khan, said that the total evacuee’s property in the state is about 69,000 acres and 31,500 acres respectively.
The evacuee land is the left out property of those who migrated to Pakistan from Jammu and Kashmir during 1947.
He admitted that there have been some instances of subletting of evacuee property by the allottees in favour of various persons, but said that no property has been sub-let to the land grabbers.
The minister added the department initiated proceedings against such illegal occupants under the Provisions of law as envisaged under J&K State Evacuees Svt 2006.
Khan further said in some cases the possession has been regularised against payment of premium on the basis of potential value of the property determined by the committees constituted at divisional levels under new policy in the department and ground rent as per guidelines.
He also informed that an area measuring nearly 124 acres in Jammu division has recently been retrieved from the encroachers and fenced. (AGENCIES)
