JAMMU, Apr 5:
The Centre has sanctioned over 1,000 schemes under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) at an estimated cost of nearly Rs 2,500 crore in the State.
In a reply to a question by Congress member Sham Lal Bhagat in the Legislative Council here, Minister for Roads and Buildings, Abdul Majid Wani, said that under PMGSY, 1,040 schemes at an estimated cost of Rs 2,437.16 crore for a length of 6,682.53 kms road were sanctioned from Phase I to IX in Jammu province.
Out of these, 237 schemes which include 63 schemes of Ramban district and 73 schemes of Kishtwar district at an estimated cost of Rs 925.61 crore for a length of 650.09 kms were sanctioned from Phase I to IX in erstwhile Doda District, the Minister added.
Wani also said that under the R&B Sector, 2,547 road schemes are under execution in Jammu province.
The minister, meanwhile, replying to another question by Congress MLC Naresh Kumar Gupta, said while every effort is made to provide connectivity to the people living in remotest parts of the state, priority is now assigned to the areas having low percentage of connectivity.
He also said pre-feasibility study for construction of a 6.80-km long road tunnel of Basohli-Bani-Bhaderwah road has been conducted by Project BEACON in association with Snow Avalanche Study Establishment and the report has been forwarded to Director General, Border Roads in August 2012.
The report is under active consideration and the feasibility study for framing up proposal will be conducted in next year, he added.
Wani further said that pre-feasibility study for construction of a 10 km long road tunnel on NH-244 has been conducted by the project BEACON and the report has been forwarded to Secretary, Border Road Development Board, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in January, for which sanction is awaited.
