The Government today said an ex-gratia is being provided to the victims of mine blasts near Line of Control in 2001.
Minister of State for Home Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo while replying to the question raised by MLC Ravinder Sharma in the Legislative Council said, “73 people have been injured due to mine blasts near LOC in Jammu division during Operation Parakaram”.
Out of these, 33 injured belong to Tehsil Nowshera of district Rajouri and an amount of Rs 16.95 lakh has been paid to 17 injured as ex-gratia relief and the remaining cases are under process, he added.
The Minister further said in Kashmir division, 18 have been injured due to mine blasts near LOC, out of whom 13 have been paid ex-gratia relief amounting to Rs 9 lakh and remaining cases are under examination and re-verification at different stages.
Mr Kichloo further said the Ministry of Defence, Government of India has formulated a scheme for payment of ex-gratia compensation to the persons who suffer from landmine casualties.
The scheme is titled ‘Éx-gratia Compensation Package for Landmine Casualties’. (AGENCIES)
