JAMMU, Apr 26: Former MLC and senior BJP leader S Charanjeet Singh Khalsa in a video conference of select members of MJR-47 held today, discussed the problems being raised by many in view of the present state of the pandemic.
JS Sudan, convener, Suchwant Singh, chief spokesman MJR-47, OP Khajuria, Dalip Singh, Dr Padam Raina, Daljeet Singh and Harjeet Singh joined online.
All participants highly appreciated the massive efforts made by J&K UT dispensation to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in J&K and save precious human lives. The steps taken so far are showing results in containing this deadly virus leading to minimal mortality and that too mainly due to unauthorized entry of people in the State and hiding themselves. Constant review is being made to minimize difficulties of the public in general and concessions are allowed wherever necessary, they observed.
It was strongly demanded that all those valley people who had come to spend winters either in Jammu or had gone to other states where their off springs are working, have been stranded. They are unable to travel back to their homes due to the strict enforcement of lockdown.
Their going back at this time is very important as all agriculture operations are at their peak. Orchardist’s presence in their orchards is very essential these days. As all orchard operations alone will lend optimal and good quality produce of cherry, apple, and other fruits. Quality produce can only fetch them a good return for which they have only one annual ongoing season. J&K is an agriculture-based economy and horticulture is major source of State economy and majority people, they maintained.
Moreover, many businessmen and vendors who go to other States in winter to sell handicraft products viz. shawls, etc. and return back to work for next winter while being in State and at their places in summer. Presently they are also stranded wherever they are in outside States and are without business due to lockdown. Unless all those stranded don’t return at this critical time, it will impact their income and State economy in general. Their return should be assured subject to all those standard operation procedures.
