India Posts provides relief to needy during Corona crisis

CHANDIGARH: The Indian Postal Department is improvising its duties to help the needy during the lockdown/curfew imposed by Central Government in the wake of COVID 19 pandemic.

According to an official release here on Monday, Punjab Postal Circle has delivered almost all the essentials items to people.  To serve its customers especially in the present situation, all Intra Circle and Inter Circle mail routes to Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and J&K have been made fully functional through Departmental Mail Vans and Contractual Mail Vans.

The department, through the efficiency and dedication of its ‘postal soldiers’, has  disbursed more than Rs 20.73 crore to over one lakh beneficiaries at their doorstep which include old people, differently-abled and widows. The payments were made by Aadhar Enabled Payment Systems (AEPS) through Branch Postmaster.

During the lockdown, 1.80 lakh accountable articles, over seven lakh Post Office Savings Bank Transactions worth Rs 2245.39 crore and 6,235 ATM transactions worth Rs 2.51 crore have been made by Punjab circle.

The department has provided customised delivery of groceries and other essential everyday items to senior citizens in Punjab circle who are staying alone.

The department has also arranged the emergent delivery of medicines, medical aids, medical equipment, testing kits etc. for doctors, patients and senior citizens in Punjab circle.

The Punjab circle is working full hours and with skeletal staff and taking all the required precautions including physical distancing as suggested by medical experts.

The department also arranged medicines timely for an eight-year-old girl suffering from Cancer from Una in Himachal Pradesh by April 19, with the coordinated efforts of four circles of India Post in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.

A special Mail Motor was arranged to deliver the medicines in Una from Chandigarh. The efforts were lauded by the Minister of Communications.

The department has also provided food to over one lakh construction workers, hawkers, rickshaw pullers, attendants of patients, migrant labourers stuck in various parts of Punjab and Union Territory Chandigarh and is continuing.
