Defunct Ultrasound machine hits patient-care at SDH Mandi

POONCH, Apr 29: An Ultrasonography (USG) machine is lying defunct at Sub District Hospital Mandi of district Poonch for the past two months now, putting the life of many patients in the area at grave risk.
Locals of the area said that the Sub District Hospital (SDH) caters to patient-care of around 1.75 lakhs population in the area.
The lone USG machine at the hospital, lying dysfunctional for months now has raised a lot of questions on the overall medical-care facilities in the region, while the locals claim that “despite several intimations the authorities are yet to respond.”
“With no other (USG) machine available, the patients especially pregnant women are facing a lot of hardships, the locals said.
When contacted, Block Medical Officer, Mandi, Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Bukhari said that the machine was beyond repair. “We even had brought engineers to fix it, but it is beyond repair,” he said, adding, “We have passed an order to procure a new ultrasound machine. It’s expected to arrive soon,” he added.
