Pak violates ceasefire, Army gives befitting reply

Jammu, May 1: Two Army personnel were martyred and six persons including four civilians were injured as Pakistan violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector today while army retaliated inflicting heavy causalities on Pakistani troops.
Srinagar based Defence spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said: “Today at about 15:30 hours, Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation (CFV) along the LoC in Rampur Sector, district Baramula. Three soldiers have been injured in the firing. Indian Army is retaliating befittingly.”
An official said that the Army gave befitting reply and targeted the Pakistani posts inflicting heavy casualties on them. He said that posts were also destroyed.

Four Army personnel were injured in the ceasefire violations and they were evacuated to hospital for treatment. Two of them identified as Havaldar Gokaran and Naik Shanker succumbed to their injuries. Two others identified as Havaldar Narayan Singh and Naik Pradeep Kumar are undergoing treatment.
The four persons identified as Shanaza Bano, 12, daughter of Bashir Ahmad, Thaira Bano, 20, wife of Liyaqat Ali, Touseef Ahmad Khatana, 4, son of Bashir Ahmad Khatana and Hussan wife of Husan Din Koli of Churanda village were also injured. The civilian were evacuated to hospital.
A senior official said that several shells landed in civilian areas which created panic at Chrunda, Batgran, Hathlanga, Mothal, Sahoora, Silikote, Balkote, Nambla and Garkote areas. However, there were no reports of migration of people from these villages.
Over a dozen residential houses suffered partial damage in Hajipeer sector due to the intense shelling.
Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Uri Reyaz Ahmad Malik said that among the injured three are serious and have been shifted to Sub-District Hospital Uri for treatment.
And a gunfight broke out in Rajwara forest area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district between militants and security forces today.
A joint team of Army’s 21 RR, 9 Para , SOG and 92 CRPF launched cordon and search operation in Rajwar Handwara area of Kupwara district after credible input about presence of some militants in the area.
An official said that they had information about presence of two militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) in the forest area. He said that as the troops approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon searching party triggering an encounter.
The official said that the militants are trapped in the forest area and more troops have been rushed to the area to prevent them from fleeing.
Meanwhile, India today registered a strong protest with Pakistan over the killing of an “innocent” Indian national in an unprovoked firing by Pakistani forces along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said.
The civilian was killed and another injured when the Pakistan army engaged in mortar shelling in forward areas along the LoC in Poonch district on Thursday.
India registered a strong protest with Pakistan over killing of the Indian national, sources said.
