SRINAGAR, May 3: Senior CPI (M) leader and former MLA MY Tarigami and Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) senior leader and former legislator Rafi Ahmad Mir today demanded time bound and a fair probe into a case of alleged medical negligence that resulted into death of a 25-year-old pregnant woman at Child and Maternity Hospital in Anantnag and registration of FIR against those responsible.
In a statement issued here Tarigami said untimely and unfortunate death of a young lady and her baby at Anantnag hospital has sent shock waves among the people of the area. It is entirely the result of willful negligence of a doctor at the hospital. CPI leader demanded registration of an FIR against the culprits without any delay.
The family of the deceased has alleged that first the doctor delayed the treatment and then asked to shift patient to Maternity and Child Care Hospital from Seer Hamdan. Such negligence on the part of doctors needed to be investigated thoroughly, CPI (M) leader said.
JKAP leader Rafi Mir said that death of the lady, a resident of Salia Nowpora of district Anantnag due to alleged negligence of medical staff speaks volumes of healthcare services being provided in the district.
“This is not a case in isolation but there are other instances wherein such patients suffered immensely because of the acute dearth of infrastructure and manpower in the Health department in the district. Precious lives have been lost because of this apathetic attitude of the Government,” Mir said.
He said, “While we try to understand that hospitals are overburdened and witnessing huge rush due to ongoing situation but the manner in which the deceased was treated is totally unacceptable.”
Mir said that reportedly the family of the deceased was not even provided with an ambulance to ferry the body of their loved one to her native village. He demanded that the administration should take all factors into consideration and the probe committee should also follow the principle of natural justice.
