Srinagar, May 4: J&K RTI Movement today appealed Govt of J&K to set up contact with Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Uttrakhand Government’s for bringing back stranded Kashmiri labourers who have been making repeated requests for their evacuation from several areas of these states.
In a statement, Chairman of RTI Movement Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat said that more than one hundred labourers from Kashmir are held up in UP and UK states till date as per the information provided by stranded labourers.
“No official contact has been set up by J&K Govt with both the states to bring these stranded people back to Kashmir,” he said.
He said that he is in touch with almost 50 to 60 Kashmiri labourers from district Budgam who are held up in Fatehpur area of Barabanki district of UP and Bajpur area of Udham Singh Nagar in Uttrakhand (UK). These labourers are now penniless and are facing a lot of hardships in the ongoing month of Ramzan.
“Some of the stranded labourers told me that officials in the local Tehsil office in Bajpur Udham Singh Nagar district have told them that J&K Govt has not contacted them yet for their return. I had tweeted the DM of Udham Singh Nagar a few days back. Regarding labourers in Barabani UP the situation is also very bad,” he said.
Pertinently, the Kashmiri labourers stranded in UP and Uttrakhand (UK) are working in cold stores and Sugarcane factories from last 5 to 6 months. They had left Kashmir last year in December.
“I appeal J&K Govt officials particularly DC Budgam, officers of Labour Department and concerned Nodal officers to contact these poor labourers. Their name and contact numbers are Abdul Hamid Khan Uttrakhand 9917424063 and Ghulam Hassan Lone Barabanki UP 7881164437” the statement added.
