JAMMU, Apr 6: Director General Prisons K. Rajendra Kumar made an inspection tour of the proposed Institute of Correctional Services at Mishriwala, here today.
He was accompanied by Dr. Mohd. Sultan Lone, DIG (Prisons), Javid Masood Fazili, Principal of the Correctional Institute, Virender Razdan, Technical Officer to DG Prisons besides other Officers of the department.
The Prisons Department is having possession of about 170 kanals of land at Mishriwalla which was handed over to it by the Relief Department after the shifting of Kashmiri migrants to the new township at Jagti (Nagrota). The department is intending to establish an Institute of Correctional Services at Mishriwalla in one of the portions of the land. The proposed Training Institute will aim at providing comprehensive and credible training to the Prisons staff. The jail staff will also be imparted with the training on Custodial and Correctional Services.
K. Rajendra Kumar gave on the spot directions that the functioning of the proposed institute should be started immediately after under taking repair, renovation and up-gradation of the available basic infrastructure constructed by the Relief Department for the Kashmiri migrants. D.G Prisons gave instructions to the Technical Officer for the preparation of Detailed Master Plan with an eye on the future requirements of the department for next twenty five years, so that the modern Institute of Correctional Services is established in tune with national standards.
He emphasised that the proposal for construction of an Open Air Jail should also be incorporated in the Master Plan after making detailed study of the various modern Model Open Air Jails located in the various States of the country.
The D.G Prisons also desired that some chunk of the land should also be reserved for the construction of residential quarters for the Jail staff with having all the basic facilities and amenities.
