JU among top 10 institutions hosting Hackathon-2013

JAMMU, Apr 6: The University of Jammu is among 10 other top institutions of the country selected for conducting first ever Hackathon- online participation on the 12th Five Year Plan by the Planning Commission and National Innovation Council.
The two-day national event started with the address by Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission and Sam Pitroda, Adviser to Prime Minister on Public Information, Infrastructure and Innovation through video conferencing from New Delhi.
The speakers deliberated upon the various schemes undertaken in the 12th Five Year Plan and the Hackathon. The Question Answer session was also held through video conferencing wherein questions were put across to Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Sam Pitroda by the participants across India.
The main objective of the Hackathon is to explore novel ways of communicating the 12th Five Year Plan through innovative visualization like information graphics, short documentaries/stories, edutainment games, mobile apps etc.
Later expressing his happiness over the inclusion of the University of Jammu on the National Map, Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar in his address said this would give wider exposer to the faculty, scholars/students of the University.
The event, spread over the two days comprises of various sector specific parallel sessions.
The organising members present on the occasion were Prof Devanand, Advisor to VC on IT, Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Rector, Kathua Campus, Prof B C Sharma, J K Sharma, Guneet Sudan, Vinay Thusoo, faculty members, scholars and students.
The other institutions, selected for hosting Hackathon, included IIT Delhi, Delhi University, Aligarh Muslim University, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, TISS Mumbai, IIT Hyderabad, IISc Bangalore and IIT Madras.
