JAMMU, Apr 6: Infused with a confidence following his re-appointment as president of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz today predicted that Congress in Jammu and Kashmir would form Government either on its own or in a coalition headed by the party.
“The next Government will be formed by our party either on its own or in a coalition headed by Congress, which is all set to emerge as single largest force in Jammu Kashmir,” he told Excelsior on his maiden arrival at the party headquarters after getting re-appointed as PCC president, here today.
Stating that he would further strengthen the party in all three region of the State, Prof Soz, however, maintained that Jammu was backbone of the Congress. “Congress is strong in all three regions but Jammu is the back bone of the party and we will take special care of aspirations of people here,” the PCC chief said adding that he would leave no stone unturned for strengthening the party at grass root level.
Replying to a query regarding the party’s quiet and defensive approach towards Armed Forces Special Power Act, Afzal Guru and other contentious issue, Prof Soz sought to explain that it was strategy of the Congress. “It is our strategy and we have gained by this,” he said.
On the issue of prevailing factionalism in the party, the PCC chief claimed that Congress was united and if there were any differences among some individuals, the same would be ironed out in the overall interest of the party. “I take everybody along and no one is my detractor. The party is supreme and no one is above the party. Welfare of Congress party is our common goal,” he said.
Meanwhile, addressing the gathering at the PCC Headquarters, Prof Soz said that he would leave no stone unturned to come up to the expectations of the party high command, workers and people of all three regions of the State.
He said that the Congress party was committed to strengthen the democratic institutions in the State in order to ensure participation of people in the governance and development. The PCC chief asked partymen to work unitedly for strengthening the organization in all parts of the State at the grass root level and assured them that he would always remain available to their needs and in the service of the party. He asked for coordinated efforts of the party including frontal organizations to take along party workers to further strengthen the organization at the grass root level in all parts of the State.
