JAMMU, May 8: The Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) today reiterated that families of displaced persons of 1947 from PoK numbering 5300 as per Govt record settled outside UT of J&K be paid relief package of Rs 5.5 lakhs through PRO Jammu by reviewing the order dated 11-12-2019, wherein they have been asked to approach their respective state Governments to submit a proposal to Union Govt to seek the relief assistance under the Prime Minister Relief Package provided to various categories of DPs.
While reacting to the said order Gurdev Singh, president JKSAC expressed his concerns that order in question issued in respect of DPs settled outside UT of J&K is totally illogical, misconceived and contrary to the presentations made in the meeting held on June 19, 2019 at Srinagar. He said that in this high level meeting presided by PK Pole, the then Secretary DMRRR, also attended by other concerned officers, wherein it was clearly explained by the JKSAC representatives that the DPs of 1947 from PoK settled outside erstwhile J&K state are the bonafide/hereditary residents who migrated alongwith with other DPs settled in Jammu after 1947 turmoil. Out of 31,619 families the only registration available with the Govt, almost 5300 DPs families left the state during the onward period in search of their livelihood and settled outside because of the mismanagement and apathetic attitude of the then state govt led by Late Prime Minister Sheikh Mohd Abdullah. Later, on to pay lip service to the suffering DPs he appealed to the Govt of other states to help and accommodate them.
The history bore the testimony that the then respective Govts never gave them any opportunity/space to come back and settle here in their own native state having a malafide intentions. These DPs are also registered with PRO Jammu for all the practical purposes having their records in Jammu.
It is pertinent to mention that the issue has been discussed many times with the concerned high-ups of the Govt and now even with Lt Governor GC Murmu in January 2020. Despite of bringing all facts and logics in his notice no adequate attention has been paid till date and issue is still hanging. The DPs settled outside are under great harassment/confusion and contacting JKSAC to take up their issue with the Govt again.
He further said that the DPs families of PoK settled in different states of India has increased many folds now. They are scattered and lacking coordination to represent their case with their respective state Govts for further submission to MHA for relief payment. He appealed to the Lt Governor to review the order in respect of these hapless DPs.
