50 Kgs poppy straw seized, 3 arrested

JAMMU, May 9: Continuing its drive against the propagators of Drug menace, Samba Police today on third consecutive day recovered 50 kg Poppy Straw in two different operations conducted in the jurisdiction of PS Vijaypur and PS Bari Brahmana.
Acting on reliable information, a police party of P/S Vijaypur intercepted a truck bearing No. HR37A/3308 at Naka NHW Rakh Barotian Vijaypur during the early morning hours which was on its way from Kashmir towards Punjab. During the search of vehicle, 48.700 kg Poppy Straw (Bhukki) was recovered which was packed in 80 packets of different weigh of 01 Kg & of 500 gm.
The accused driver identified as Binder Singh, S/o Harbajan Singh and his associate Jaseer Singh, S/o Resham Singh both R/o MalerKotla, Sangrur, Punjab, were arrested on the spot and the contraband item along with vehicle was seized.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 80/2020 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act registered at P/S Vijaypur and further investigation started.
Similarly in a separate incident, a Police party of Police Station, Bari Brahmana intercepted a truck bearing Registration No. PB11CJ/0761 which was moving towards Punjab from Kashmir. During the checking of the vehicle, 1.300Kg of Poppy Straw was recovered.
The driver identified as Kulwinder Singh, S/o Najar Singh, R/o MalerKotla, Sangrur, Punjab was arrested and contraband item along with vehicle was also seized.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 95/2020 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act was registered at P/S Bari Brahmana and investigation started.
The drive against the drug mafia in the district has been launched on the directives of SSP Samba, Shakti Pathak and under overall supervision of Additional SP Samba, Faisal Qureshi.
