leh, May 10: Kifayat Hussain, resident of Chushot, district, Leh, Ladakh Union Territory, is undergoing quarantine period after tested positive for coronavirus. However, this didn’t dampen his spirit to continue his passion for teaching and he is giving online classes from an isolation centre.

Kifayat is a Mathematics teacher at a private school in Chushoot, which was one of the hotspots in Ladakh region as many people from there had gone for pilgrimage in Iran. The area was declared Conta-inment Zone after a spike in coroanvirus cases. Kifayat said it was then he voluntarily opted for coronarius testing.
“I didn’t want to take risk as I am a teacher and interact with hundreds of students daily. For me, students have been always been a priority and didn’t want to risk their lives,” Kifayat told Excelsior in a video interview from quarantine centre.
He was tested positive on May 3 and since then he is undergoing quarantine at a isolation centre in Leh. Kifayat says he never imagined he would be tested positive .
Mortality and fatality rate of coronavirus is not on a higher side. The recovery rate in India is about 30 %. In both Ladakh and J&K UTs many people have recovered.
Says Kifayat: “I am quite hopeful that I would be tested negative when the school reopens . I wasn’t shaken by it but decided to use my this period in a constructive manner.”
Kifayat says he never though of another profession other than teaching. He has been teaching for about 12 years and has been helping students to understand Mathematics problem in real time, using practical tools.
School principal on coming to know about called him and encouraged him to take online classes. Kifayat approached Union Territory authorities who allowed him and provided all the facilities. He give online classes daily on Zoom App and also puts his lectures on Youtube. His family members on coming to know about his initiative too supported and encouraged him.
Kifayat sends questions on Whatsapp group. The students respond in real time. The students also call him regularly for answers to the queries.
“Interacting with students not only gives me positive vibes but also keeps me busy. If I hadn’t been doing this, a lot of negative thoughts would have come . I decided to use this period in a constructive manner,” said Kifayat.
Kifayat says a lot many people are taking this disease quite seriously and with too much negative mindset. He says one can fight it out like another disease.
“More than the disease, it’s the mind set up of the people which needs to be changed. People are taking it in a very negative manner. We can fight out this disease. One should be confident about it,” says Kifayat Hussain.
