JU discusses roadmap to meet academic, administrative timelines

JAMMU, May 12: Jammu University has decided that the current lockdown period would be treated as the summer break while a roadmap is being chalked out to put academics, examinations and research back to track soon in the light of UGC guidelines and Government directives regarding safety and health of all stakeholders because of COVID-19 pandemic.
Discussions in this regard were held today by the JU Vice-Chancellor, Prof Manoj Dhar with senior academicians and officials of the University to chalk out micro level strategies to make the University fully functional in the areas, particularly conduct of online classes, courses completion, examination schedule, admission schedule for the next session and other day to day administrative activities, etc.
The Vice Chancellor directed Dean Research Studies and the Controller of Examinations to formulate an elaborate work plan and identify those M Phil/Ph D Scholars whose reports have already been received by the University without any shortcomings, so that their viva-voce can be conducted through Skype/WebEx based/any other platform as per the UGC guidelines.
It was decided that up to 30th May, 2020, University shall make every effort to put in place the required mechanism as well as the essentially required infrastructure, safety equipment, gadgets etc for smooth implementation of the revised Academic Calendar in conformity with the UGC and COVID-19 related safety guidelines.
All examinations already stand suspended till further orders and the university shall notify well in advance the date sheets for conducting examinations. For UG examinations, decisions will be taken in consultation with the Principals of the affiliated colleges. The Directorate of Distance Education shall follow the same schedules as would be prescribed for other Departments of the University. While the new academic session is being envisaged to start in September 2020 as per the UGC guidelines, the University shall try its best to put in place the required mechanism for allowing students to have face to face interaction with the respective faculty members during the period ending June, 2020 to mid July 2020 in strict compliance to the social distancing norms.
As already notified, hostels shall remain closed and no students/boarders/outsiders shall be allowed to enter the university campus till it is opened for the resumption of regular class work. Common facilities like Guest House, cafeteria, canteens, Central and Departmental Libraries, GZSA, etc shall also continue to remain closed till further orders.
