Forest Deptt seizes 50 billets

SAMBA, May 15: The Forest Department after thorough inquiry in the illegal felling of Khair trees in village Bagoona where seven trees were cut yesterday has maintained that the said land does not belong to Forest Department but is the property of Ravinder Singh, son of Mohan Singh of Bagoon.
A team of Forest Department led by DFO, Samba Forest Division, Abhinav Ramyotra and the Revenue Officers led by Naib Tehsildar of the area on verification of the records of the land belonged to Ravinder Singh.
The DFO said as per the SRO 111 of 2016, Management Plan and 10 years felling cycle , 272 trees had been sanctioned in favour of Ravinder Singh as per Form D (Felling permission) issued by the undersigned and all of the 272 trees have been duly marked, felled and dumped at a nearby location of transaction.
He said however, during the inspection, additional 22 number of trees have been found illegally felled over and above the sanctioned limit out of which the stuff of 15 trees converted into 168 billets had already been lifted and admixtured in the said dump which has also been recovered today from the possession of the contractor namely Pushpinder Singh and kept on proper Suparadnama by Range Officer concerned. However, the 50 NOs of billets converted from 7 trees have already been seized by the police party.
