JAMMU, May 17: PHE Employees United Front has urged upon the higher authorities to provide safety material and release pending wages of the PHE workers who are working day and night for ensuring water supplies to public despite lockdown due to Covid-19.
The apex committee of the PHE Employees United front which met under the leadership of Bakshi Singh, Subhash Verma, Balbadhar Raj, K C Dubey and others expressed serious concern over the attitude of the higher authorities in the department. They pointed out that despite repeated request of the field/ operational staff, the protective/ safety material is not being provided to them. They said only a few workers have been issued the same but it is highly sub-standard.
The Front leaders further pointed out that many PHE daily rated/ consolidated workers have not been paid their wages for the last 60 months. Despite several representations and protests/ dharnas the Government has failed to clear their pending wages. They also demanded regularisation of the workers appointed after 1994 under SRO 64. They also demanded that J&K UT Administration should implement Minimum Wages Act on the pattern of Centre in J&K UT.
The Front demanded that in future, the wages of these workers should be released every month so that they could feed their families properly. Further, they demanded insurance cover for the field operational staff of the PHE on the pattern of Health /Medical employees.
