SRINAGAR, May 17: Senior vice president, J&K People’s Conference (JKPC) and former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil has expressed serious concern over the soil erosion on the banks of Nallah Pohru in Nowpora Kalan Rafiabad, leaving hundreds of families at a great risk as their residential houses are near to collapse.
“It is surprising that the people of the area are crying for the protection of the property but the administration is in deep slumber. If immediate measures are not taken to construct protection wall (retaining wall), any catastrophe takes place,” he said.
The JKPC leader said even though the district administration has been informed about this serious problem, but it didn’t bother to address the problem of the people whose property can get damaged at any time if the erosion of soil continues.
Vakil stressed upon the Lt Governor GC Murmu to direct the concerned authorities to take steps on war footing to save the property and lives of the people as the fast degradation of banks of the Nallah Pohru may also result in inundation of apple orchards.
