SRINAGAR, May 18: In the highest single day spike in COVID-19 cases and deaths in Kashmir, 94 people including 55 policemen and five doctors tested positive today and three persons died taking the number of deaths due to Coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir to 16.
Two among the three victims, a 65-year-old woman from Kulgam district and a 75-year-old woman from Kokernag Anantnag had tested positive in the morning and were shifted from SMHS hospital to CD hospital Dalgate here. The 75-year-old woman was suffering from thyroid cancer.

A 65-year-old woman from Kulgam, who was admitted in Surgical ICU in SMHS hospital as case of Sub Dural Haemorrhage (SDH) tested positive for COVID-19 this morning and was shifted to CD Hospital Srinagar where she had cardiac arrest soon after she was admitted and instantly died today.
Prior to it, a 75-year-old man, a resident of Hillar Kokernag Anantnag, died at the CD hospital. He was admitted at the hospital after testing positive last month. He had tested negative but died today before being declared recovered.
He was shifted from CD hospital to SMHS hospital for an emergency procedure known as tracheostomy which involves creating an opening in the neck in order to place a tube into a person’s windpipe to allow air to enter the lungs. It was at SHMS hospital when his fresh sample was taken and it tested positive following which he was again taken to CD hospital where he died.  He was continuously on ventilator for last eight days. He was suffering from Pneumonia.
And this evening a 65-year-old woman from Kokernag in district Anantnag died at CD hospital. She was admitted here and had a last stage thyroid cancer. She was admitted in SMHS where from she was shifted to CD hospital after she tested COVID-19 positive.
Officials said that 99 samples tested positive at Chest Diseases hospital, SKIMS hospital and Army Hospital Udhampur today. They include 85 at SKIMS including six from Jammu region, 5 at SKIMS and 11 at Army’s Command Hospital Udhampur.
Those who tested positive today are 59 from Anantnag district including 55 cops, 12 from Srinagar, 12 from Kulgam, 2 from Bandipora, 4 from Kupwara, one each from Baramulla, Shopian, Budgam, Ganderbal and Pulwama in Kashmir.
Nodal Officer Government Medical College Srinagar, Dr Salim Khan, said that out of 750 samples processed at CD hospital Srinagar 83 tested positive including six from Jammu region and 77 from Kashmir. They include 5 doctors and 55 police men from a Jammu and Kashmir Police Battalion in Anantnag.
The doctors include 30 year old from Bemina in Srinagar and posted at MCH SKIMS; 27 year old dentist from Asham in Sumbal area of Bandipora working in Government Dental College Srinagar; 46 year old from Ladakh working as consultant at ENT department in SMHS Srinagar, 42-year old from Mehjoor Nagar Srinagar and posted at ENT department in SMHS Srinagar and 30 year old Registrar at ENT department in SMHS Srinagar.
The 55 cops including a police officer were tested positive at 11th battalion J&K Armed Police at Anantnag district.
The patients admitted in hospitals who tested positive include 30 and 38 year old men from Anantnag, 52 year old woman from Srinagar, 32 year old man from Pulwama, 25 year old man from Kupwara, 50 year old man from Kulgam, 28 year woman from Ganderbal, a woman from Bandipora admitted in LD hospital, 26 year old woman from Rajbagh Srinagar, 50 year old woman from Bemina,  75-year-old woman from Kokernag admitted in SMHS with CA thyroid on Tracheostomy, 55 year old man from Fateh Kadel admitted in SMHS with appendicitis, 65 year old woman from Kulgam who died at CD hospital yesterday, 56 year old woman from Kargil admitted in SMHS with Pancreatitis, 70 year old woman from Budgam, 55 year old man from Pattan in district Baramulla  and 27-year-old woman from  Sallar Pahalgam.
Medical Superintendent of SKIMS, Dr Farooq Jan, told Excelsior that 1498 samples were processed at the SKIMS Path Lab and 5 tested positive. He said that 2713 samples are under process and 2394 are pending.
He said that five new cases include 18 and 21-year-old woman and 30-year-old man from Gonipora Handwara besides a 70-year-old man from Darbagh Shopian and 26-year-man from Rambag area of Srinagar.
Eleven people also tested positive at Udhampur Army hospital and 10 of them are from Kulgam district. So far 12591 tests have been conducted at the Army hospital.
As per officials figures, 173 positive cases including two deaths and 61 recoveries are from Anantnag, 169 including five deaths and 96 recoveries are from Srinagar, 159 including one death and nine recoveries are from Kulgam, 137 including and 128 recoveries are from Bandipora, 119 including 81 recoveries are from Baramulla, 109 including 75 recoveries are from Shopian,  101 including 48 recoveries are from Kupwara, 58 including 30 recoveries are from Budgam, 24 including 15 recoveries are from Ganderbal and 17 including 6 recoveries are from Pulwama.
So far 114,788 persons in Jammu and Kashmir are under observation while as 29,208 persons have been kept under home quarantine besides that 665 persons are in hospital isolation while as 89 persons are under hospital quarantine. And 66,511 persons have completed surveillance period and 18,300 persons are under home surveillance besides that so far results of 88,601 samples are available.
Out of 88,601 number of samples processed, 87,312 tested negative and 1289 as positive. There are 665 are active cases and 609 persons have recovered and 16 persons died.
