JAMMU, May 28: The Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) has reiterated its demand of defreezing one- third of their share of seats out of 24 reserved against as per the Reorganisation Act of 2019.
In a video confercing meeting with all the district heads of JKSAC, including Tarlok Singh Tara (Poonch), Kewal Sharma & Dev Sukh (Rajouri), Amar Singh (Udhampur), Dwarka Nath Sharma (Jammu) and Bhushan Sharma (Kathua), president Jagdev Singh reiterated his demand for defreezing of one-third of their share of seats out of 24 reserved again as per the Reorganization Act of 2019 wherein, only 90 Assembly seats out of 114 were granted to UT of J&K with an increase of 7 more seats.
JKSAC appealed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to review the Reorganization Act of 2019 to raise the seats from 90 to 98 to deliver the long awaited justice to DPs of 1947 from PoK as the Delimitation Commission is on its way to undertake mandatory exercise for redrawing the boundaries of 90 Assembly constituencies of UT of J&K prior to the election.
While presenting his views Gurdev Singh, lauded the Govt for nominating MPs of various parties from UT of J&K as members of the Commission for initiating the process of delimitation of Assembly constituencies. He termed this as a much needed step of Modi Govt to setup the Commission to undo the decade old discrimination meted out with the people of Jammu region. He expressed his concern with regret that DPs of 1947 from PoK have been ignored again and were deprived of their legitimate share of 8 Assembly seats, reserved again as per the said Act.
Singh said that DPs of 1947 from PoK have been crying for a long period for defreezing of their share of seats since they were thrown out forcibly by Pakistan tribals from their native places in PoK now under the illegal occupation of Pakistan. He said that JKSAC was constituently demanding defreezing of 8 out of 25 seats as one seat already defrozen for Mendhar constituency, to represent their aspirations for their overall development and have made relentless efforts in this regard since 1967 through various democratic means.
There is no justification and logic to reserve the said 8 seats as the DPs have migrated to this side of J&K and their share of seats would have been granted to them, but unfortunately the seats were earlier captivated by valley centric dispensations of erstwhile J&K state for political considerations and now by the said Act.
