Beg describes killing of Sarpanch as attack on peace

Anantnag, Apr 9: Senior National Conference (NC) leader and Parliamentarian, Dr. Mehoob Beg, today said that killing of a Panchayat member in South Kashmir last night is an attack on peace and people of Kashmir.
“I strongly condemn the killing of Sarpanch in Pulwama. The attack on Panchs and Sarpanchs is not only an attack on them but an attack on peace,” said Dr. Mehoob Beg while speaking to media persons after donating generator and biochemistry machines at Maternity and Children Hospital from his Parliamentary constituency fund.
Beg said that the Panchs and Sarpanchs have not been nominated but elected by a vast majority of people and such people targeting them can never be the wellwishers of people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that the need of the hour is that all the mainstream parties should join hands and frame joint strategy to protect the grass root democratic institutions.
On the recent speculations that NC might  go for upcoming Parliamentary and Assembly elections alone, Beg said, ” We have not yet decided whether to go alone or fight elections jointly with our ally but the decision is expected to be taken in next working committee meeting as it alone  has the mandate to take such decisions,” said Dr Beg.
