JAMMU, May 31: Kuldeep Chalotra, president of Vishwakarma Dogra Labour Union (VDLU) has appealed the Lt Governor G C Murmu to cover the un-registered workers under Social Security Scheme in J&K.
“The relief measure for the construction workers during COVID-19 lockdown from your good office is highly appreciable step but the scheme covers only registered construction workers, of J&K UT and not the un-registered workers,” he said in a statement.
Chalotra claimed that all social security measures for the labour class shall not serve the purpose till such unregistered workers and labourers are covered by it. There is huge population of unregistered workers in J&K. Many of the workers in the hundreds of sectors like Agriculture, Rehri/ Phari men, Bus/ Truck conductors, boot makers, etc don’t have BPL cards and thus deprived of the welfare schemes, he elaborated and demanded that fresh process of registration may be initiated before launch of welfare scheme for labour/ working class.
“All labourers and workers/ construction workers be registered with Govt before implementation of any social security scheme so as to ensure that no deserving case is left without benefit,” he stressed.
