JAMMU, June 6: Former Vice Chairman of Advisory Board for Gujjars and Bakerwal late Haji Buland Khan was remembered by members of Gujjar community on his 13th death anniversary in a programme held here today.
The commemoration meeting was organized by Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation, held under the presidentship of noted Gujjar researcher Dr Javaid Rahi to recall the contributions of the former legislature, and tribal reformer towards tribal communities.
In his presidential address, Dr Javaid Rahi said that Haji Buland Khan was a leader of masses who has spent his whole life for reformation of tribal and other downtrodden communities of Jammu and Kashmir. He represented Gujjar community in state legislative assembly and council, for many years and highlighted the plight of people who live in for flung areas. As a Vice Chairman of Gujjar Board for about 12 years, he played a key role to implement many important decisions taken during his tenure which include rehabilitation of Gujjar and Bakerwal’s educational and economic prosperity and establishment of new Gujjar hostels for nomadic students.
He said, I remained associated with Haji Buland Khan for 15 years and assisted him in organizing Gujjar Conferences many places. He was most regarded personality among Gujjars, Bakerwals, and others.
