Jammu, June 6: Amid COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, the Media Cell of the Central University of Jammu on Saturday organized a webinar on the topic “Journalism in J&K and Challenges of COVID-19”.
In its endeavour to impart excellence among students and society, the Media Cell of CUJ organized the 3 hour long marathon webinar, which was first of its kind, involving over 40 people including prominent journalists from Jammu and Kashmir, officials of Union information department, students and scholars from Jammu and Kashmir and other states.
The webinar was chaired by Prof. Ashok Aima, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu and the welcome address was given by Prof. Govind Singh Head of the Department of Mass Communication and New Media, CUJ.
Discussion on various issues including Journalism in J&K opportunities and challenges, COVID-19 pandemic and crisis of fake news circulation, Covid Pandemic vs Infodemic, crisis of free voice in J&K, Information Dependency: Public Service Broadcasting vs Private Information Sources in J&K, Lack of stress to address regional issues / developmental issues in J&K media, vulnerability of safety measures as well as job security for the media persons amid Covid-19 pandemic.
The webinar also discussed the urgent need to create one Capacity Building Media Center, wherein budding journalists would be trained by eminent journalists, to handle new information platforms to curb the fake news pandemic. All senior journalists requested Prof Ashok Aima, Hon’ble VC, Central University of Jammu to establish a Capacity Building Center for J&K Media fraternity.
