JAMMU, June 6: International Gurjar Mahasabha today demanded continuation of in-house schools in Gujjar-Bakarwal hostels.
A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Ch Rashid Azam Inqlabi, vice-president of the Mahasabha in which various issues pertaining to the community were discussed.
“The in-house schools in the Gujjar-Bakerwal hostels were started after the intervention of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Tribal Ministry of Govt of India. The Prime Minister had announced that the Government of India would not leave any stone unturned for the development of the both Gujjar and Bakarwal community but the Tribal Department of J&K has issued an order for closing of them, without consulting the parents of poor students and representatives of the communities,” Inqlabi said.
He further said that at present, the Gujjar community was facing hardships to migrate from the plain to hilly areas. “However, on the direction of Lieutenant Governor, the Divisional Commission Jammu and Inspector General of Police have helped the nomads in their migration during the lockdown but they are still facing difficulties to get fodders and ration for animals and human being due to absence of transport facilities,” Inqlabi added.
The Mahasabha urged the Lieutenant Governor to direct the department concerned for withdrawal of recent order (38 TAD of 2020) and allow the in-house schools to continue in the Gujjar-Bakarwal hostels.
