3 deaths, toll 40

Srinagar, June 6: A record number of 409 people including 51 pregnant women were today tested positive for COVID-19 in Kashmir while three Corona positive persons died today taking the total number of fatalities due to the Coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir to 40.
A 70-year-old patient from Baghat Barzulla died at JLNM hospital Rainawari today. The patient was admitted four days back and tested positive two days ago. He had comorbidities.
A 71-year-old man from North Kashmir’s Kupwara district who died today at SMHS hospital, later tested positive for the virus, hours after his death.
A resident of Handwara area of the North Kashmir district was brought to the hospital at around to 3 a.m today and died within an hour after admission. He had multiple problems and died of bilateral pneumonia. The hospital authorities had kept the body in mortuary and later handed over it to the family as per COVID-19 protocol.
A 72-year-old man from Shopian was shifted to CD hospital yesterday. He had underlying symptoms and died today.
With the latest fatalities, the death toll due to the virus in J&K has gone up to 40. So far Srinagar district with 10 deaths due to the Coronavirus has the highest fatalities, followed by Baramulla seven, Anantnag five, Kulgam four, three in Shopian, two each in Budgam and Kupwara and one death in Bandipora.
And a record number of 409 people today tested positive for COVID-19 in Kashmir which is the highest single day rise in positive cases from the Valley. However, some of them may be already Corona positive patients who were re-tested today.
Sources said that 3100 samples were processed at CD hospital Srinagar virology lab today and 354 tested positive. They include 109 from Shopian district, 66 from Anantnag, 76 from Baramulla, 20 from Srinagar, 12 from Budgam, 18 from Bandipora, 43 from Kulgam, four from Pulwama and 13 from Ganderbal.
Among these positive cases 31 are pregnant women and two are doctors from Government Medical College Srinagar.
The 51 pregnant women belonged to Gund, Wussan, Matrgund, Serch, Kangan, Narayan Bagh in Ganderbal district; Gulabagh, Chanapora, Baghwanpora Lal Bazar in Srinagar; Kreeri, Khawajabagh, Tapper, Putha Kreeri, Matipora Pattan, Vizer in Baramulla, Wazirthal Telail and Budugam in Bandipora district.
Among positives from Shopian district, 17 are from a single village of Shahlatoo including a 3 year old girl and none of them has travel history and are all contacts of already positive cases.
Medical Superintendent at SKIMS, Dr Farooq Jan said that out of 2207 samples processed today at the SKIMS lab, and 50 tested positive. They include a 40-year old CRPF belonging to 90th Battalion of CRPF at Anantnag. Among the 50 positive are 9 from Tengpora village in district Baramulla and they include four girls and two boys and none of them had a travel history indicating the community spread.
Principal SKIMS Medical College Bemina, Dr Riyaz Untoo told Excelsior that out of 594 samples processed at the hospital lab, 5 tested positive who all belong to Budgam district including three from Ompora village.
As per official figures, 385 positive cases including five deaths and 163 recoveries are from Anantnag, 370 including nine deaths and 143 recoveries from Srinagar, 366 including four deaths and 51 recoveries from Kulgam, 331 including 95 recoveries and one death from Kupwara, 317 including 105 recoveries and seven deaths from Baramulla, 194 including 136 recoveries and three deaths from Shopian, 180 including 136 recoveries and one death from Bandipora, 142 including 70 recoveries and two deaths from Budgam, 122 including 13 recoveries are from Pulwama and 42 including 26 recoveries from Ganderbal
So far 208,605 persons in Jammu and Kashmir were kept under observation while 42,003 persons have been kept under home quarantine besides that 2302 persons are in hospital isolation while 53 persons are under hospital quarantine. And 1,07, 208 persons have completed surveillance period while 57,045 persons are under home surveillance besides that so far results of 212,880 samples are available.
