JAMMU, June 7: Ashok Kumar, former MLA, Ramban and Senior CongresslLeader has urged upon the Central Government to restore 4G internet services in Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir as the 2G services were serving as a stumbling block for the students community of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Due to the prolonged lockdown and in the absence of working schools and colleges under Covid-19 pandemic, the only way forward is online classes. However, students of Jammu and Kashmir are deprived of that due to non-availability of proper internet services,” Ashok said.
He said that for the proper and smooth functioning of online education systems in this pandemic, 4G internet services were urgently required by both teachers and students.
“The children and students are the future of our country however, government is not at all serious about their education and future is worrisome and painful. Our young Generation of students are lagging behind in respect to other parts of country because of the distorted online education system,” added former MLA.
He appreciated the online programmes like Diksha e-Learning, EPathShala e-Learning, but said that due to disparities of wifi between urban and rural areas and lack of 4G internet services, the students belonging to rural areas were lagging behind, adding it was widening education inequality among learners without supportive measures such as wifi, 4G internet services and smart phones.
Ashok said that online education system was a costly affair, adding Centre and UT Governments have not yet given any free internet services facilities and equipments to the students with poor economic background.
He stressed upon free internet services including smart phones for all students from class 9th class to 12th plus college students for the purpose of smart online classes as many students having poor economic background and cannot afford costly devices.
Ashok stressed upon the education department to place subject-experts through online mode to deliver lectures and demonstrations with good teaching aids so that average students could also understand the concepts and contents delivered.
He demanded urgent restoration of 4G internet services looking at the current situation of education system in Jammu and Kashmir.
