Efforts to make J&K a model State: Omar

JAMMU, Apr 10: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said that four years’ report card of his Government on peace and development fronts amply substantiated its sincere intension to make Jammu and Kashmir a model State in the country where public empowerment and transparency will rule the roost.
“The historic initiatives and achievements registered on ground are itself reply to the propagandist elements, who cry hoarse to belittle the work done by the Government to ensure peace, equitable development, economic prosperity, transparency and public involvement in governance”, he said adding that those who have covered their eyes with black glasses see only dark.
Addressing a mammoth public gathering at Marh, the Chief Minister said that the network of roads and bridges, hospitals, educational institutions, power installations, irrigation and drinking water supply works and countless other development works in all sectors besides path breaking legislations to empower people enacted during the tenure of present dispensation is in itself a record and speak loud and clear on ground.
He also mentioned the measures taken by his Government to keep agriculture sector free from almost all taxes and help welfare of farming community and give boost to the agriculture production. He referred to SKEWPY and other steps taken by the Government addressing unemployment and upgrading skills of youth.
Omar said that people are best judges for our performance despite difficulties and slippery turf. “Overcoming problems of different natures, my government sailed the State through tumult waters”, he said adding that the march on road to progress will continue with firm footing and determination. “Let you keep your support unabated, we will lead you towards prosperity and permanent peace”, he maintained.
The Chief Minister referred to Public Service Guarantee Act and said that by this legislation his Government has ensured time bound service delivery of 70 important public services to the people besides ensuring transparency and reducing the chances of corruption and malpractices.
“My government gave you authority to demand identified services from the Government departments in a fixed time line and if you do not get it in that time frame, the erring official will be liable for fine which would be paid to the aggrieved consumer as compensation for the delay caused in delivering the service”, he said asking the people to take fullest advantage of this historic initiative.
Omar also spoke about the Right to Information Act and the power given to commoners to question the Government on its every performance and action or omission. He also referred to the empowerment of Panchayats and said that transfer of authority from the Secretariat to the grass root public representatives in the field is the determination of his Government.
Ridiculing the misinformation campaign by detectors of National Conference, the Chief Minister who is also the working president of National Conference said that NC lives in the hearts of common people, its flag is unfurled up-mast in all the regions and sub-regions of the State and its strength is the wholehearted support of all sections of the people.
Omar said that NC symbolizes unity, solidarity, communal harmony and equitable and inclusive development of the State. “NC has remained the voice and heartbeat of common people”, he said adding that the propaganda against this party has always fallen flat on its detectors and enemies.
He highlighted the sacrifices of National Conference leadership and its workers and said that their sincere public service is governed by the missionary spirit they posses. “Their only aim in politics is to render selfless service to the people, as such, they work with same enthusiasm both in the Government as well as in the party rank and file”, he said.
The public meeting was addressed by Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan, Minister for Planning, Ajay Sadhotra, Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo, Provincial President, Jammu, Devender Singh Rana and others.
Minister for Planning, Ajay Sadhotra on the occasion also presented a memorandum of demands of the people of Marh Constituency which included establishing a degree college, creating of separate Tehsil for Marh and Nayabats at various other places, bringing Baba Jitto Mela on tourist map, providing two model villages to the constituency, granting LoC like facilities to the people living on international border, and reframing of BPL list etc.
