Army alert on spoofed phone calls

NEW DELHI, Apr 11:
Embarrassed after its officer posted in the NSG gave away operational details to suspected ISI agents, Army has issued an advisory to its personnel to be alert against spoofed phone calls made by Pakistani intelligence operatives to extract sensitive information.
An advisory was issued by us to our formations to be careful against such spoofed calls by PIOs using telephone numbers of Delhi, Army sources said.
The PIOs pose as officers of either the Research and Analysis Wing or the Intelligence Bureau and try to get information from the senior military officials, they said.
The officials said such advisories are issued at regular intervals where the personnel are asked not to talk anything sensitive over insecure telephone lines even with fellow services officers.
After the February 21 blast in Hyderabad, an officer of the National Security Guard gave away details about NSG operations to a Pakistani spy who identified himself as an officer of the Army’s Military Intelligence (MI).
Army sources said the Army Chief has also stressed on the need for having caller-identification facility in telephone devices of all formations to avoid such incidents. (PTI)
