JAMMU, June 13: The authorities of Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu today made it clear that no mass promotions to next professional will be done without examination.
“Also, there will be no relaxation in appearance in theory examination in any professional, however, relaxation in practical/clinical examination falls within the ambit of University Statues,” said a handout issued today by GMC Jammu.
The handout mentioned that these issues besides some others were deliberated and agreed upon in a meeting chaired by Principal and Dean, GMC Jammu and attended by Director Principal ASCOMS, academic incharges of GMC Jammu and ASCOMS, Warden Boys & Girls Hostel (UG/PG) and representatives of the students from various professionals.
The meeting decided that promotion of 2nd professional students to pre-final professional and pre-final to final may be done with deferment in examination to limit loss of time and to provide equal opportunity to all students to appear in examination.
It was further agreed upon that strict implementation of infection prevention and control measures will be done while students found positive for COVID-19 will be quarantine and taken care of by the College administration, which shall help such students in whatever possible/permissible for appearance in the examination.
During the meeting, a schedule of MBBS examinations was prepared and submitted to Jammu University for approval. The schedule has been pragmatically devised by trading off the risks and the benefits involved in the interest of the students. The main features of schedule include staggering the examination so as to conduct one examination at one time in view of COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, to keep supporting the students throughout their examinations, administration of GMC Jammu nominated Dr Dinesh Kumar, Professor & Head, Community Medicine (GMC Jammu) while ASCOMS administration nominated Dr Ravinder Gupta, Professor & Head, Pediatrics, ASCOMS.
