7 drug peddlers arrested with poppy straw, cannabis

JAMMU, June 20: Police arrested seven drug peddlers and recovered large quantity of poppy straw and cannabis.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Jhajjar Kotli Police Station led by SHO Inspector Rajesh Khajuria under the supervision of SDPO Nagrota Mohan Lal Sharma laid a naka at Suketar and intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK14C-0289.
On checking of the documents of the vehicle, it was found that driver has affixed forged number plate of JK14C-0289 and the actual registration number of the truck was PB06G-2487.
During search of the vehicle, 32.960 kilograms of poppy straw was recovered from truck which was concealed in special designed cavity in the vehicle and three persons including driver were arrested.
The arrested persons were identified as Amanpreet Singh (driver), son of Kashmir Singh of Kandial Tehsil Batala, District Gurdaspur, Punjab, Hira Singh, son of Chhan Singh of Singhwala, Gurdaspur, Punjab and Lovepreet Singh, son of Rajbinder Singh of Balagan, Gurdaspur, Punjab.
A case under FIR Number 105/2020 under Section 8/15/29 NDPS and 468 IPC has been registered at Jhajjar Kotli Police Station and investigation started.
Meanwhile, a team from Narwal Police Post led by SI Vikas Jasrotia during checking intercepted a tanker bearing registration number JK02CL-5553 at Rajiv Nagar Chowk.
During checking, police team recovered 1.750 grams cannabis from the possession of driver and his associate and arrested them.
The accused were identified as Ajay Kumar, son of Kalidas of Jib, Rehambal District Udhampur and Sham Lal, son of Amaru of Thada Kulwal, Billawer, Tehsil Ramkot, District Kathua.
A case under FIR Number 153/2020 under section 8/20/29 NDPS Act has been registered at Bahu Fort Police Station and investigation initiated.
However, a joint team from Channi Himmat Police Station led by Inspector Karan Chalotra and Incharge Police Post Sainik Colony SI Anil Kumar intercepted a oil tanker bearing registration number PB08EK-9573.
During checking, police team recovered 60 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested two persons, who were identified as Harpal Singh alias Pala, son of Shiv Singh and Surjan Singh alias Mod, son of Jagdish Singh Saini, both residents of Punjab.
A case under FIR Number 73/2020 under section 8/15/29/60 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Channi Himmat and investigation started.
