Monsoon to hit J&K today: MeT

JAMMU, June 23: Though some parts of Jammu province received rain showers tonight but according to the Weather Department, these were pre-monsoon showers and the Monsoon will hit the Union Territory by tomorrow, most probably in the morning.
“Monsoon is most likely to hit Jammu and Kashmir by tomorrow morning, which is six days ahead of the normal arrival date in the UT which is June 30,” Mukhtar Ahmed, Senor Scientist at India Meteorological Department, J&K told Excelsior.
He said Monsoon today reached neighbouring State Himachal Pradesh and conditions are favourable for further strengthening of the Monsoon and it may reach J&K by tomorrow morning.
“A brief spell of rain with thunderstorm was witnessed in some parts of Jammu province tonight. These were pre-monsoon showers,” he said, adding, the Monsoon will hit the Jammu region early morning.
Jammu and some areas of Ramban, Banihal and South Kashmir will receive a spell of monsoon rains early morning of tomorrow while the 2nd spell will be witnessed by evening or late night.
The weather in other parts of Kashmir and the entire UT of Ladakh will remain dry but towards late night, light to moderate rains may be witnessed in some areas.
He further said that as per the forecast issued by IMD, the national weather Service Provider, India is expected to receive normal monsoon rainfall from June to September.
Meanwhile, the pre-Monsoon showers in Jammu brought some relief from the hot weather and temperature dipped by several notches.
