Bhalla flags off ‘Chhari Yatra’ to Sukrala Mata

JAMMU, Apr 12: Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture, Raman Bhalla today said that Baisakhi is an important festival of the region which is being celebrated by all sections of the society thus further cementing the bonds of love and brotherhood in the State.
This was stated by the Minister while addressing a large gathering after inaugurating cultural bonanza which marked Baisakhi function at Trikuta Nagar, here today.
Bhalla said that the day of Baisakhi is of great significance for Hindus as it was on this day in 1875 that Swami Dayanand Saraswati founded the Arya Samaj-a reformed sect of Hindus who are devoted to the Vedas for spiritual guidance. Besides, Baisakhi has also immense relevance for the Buddhists as Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment and Nirvana on this auspicious day.
The Minister said Baisakhi is considered to be an extremely important festival in India for number of reasons. Apart from being important for the farmers as a harvest festival, the festival is of prime importance in Sikhism as a foundation day of Khalsa Panth.
An impressive cultural programme comprising Dogri and Punjabi folk songs and dances by renowned artists of J&K Art Cultural and Languages (JKACL), Information Department remained key attraction of the cultural bonanza.
The function organized by JKACL was highly appreciated by the jam-packed audience.
Earlier, Bhalla also flagged off Chhari Yatra to Sukrala Mata which started from Shree Ram Ji temple at Purani Mandi.
Member Legislative Assembly, Jugal Kishore Sharma, was also present on the occasion.
Mahant 1008 Rameshwar Dass ji Maharaj and about 5000 pilgrims of Sukrala Mata from Jammu region participated in the yatra.
