Committees constituted to review functioning of FPOs

JAMMU, June 25: To review the development and functioning as well as constraints faced by the Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), the J&K Government has constituted an Apex Level Consultative Committee and District Level Monitoring Committees.
The 10-Member Apex Level Consultative Committee, headed by Administrative Secretary of the Agriculture Production Department, shall prepare roadmap for promotion of FPO in the UT of J&K and facilitate synergy between various stakeholders.
It shall identify crucial gaps, infrastructural requirements, technical support and create infrastructure for better market linkages besides creating enabling environment in collaboration with banks/line departments for substantial development of farmers. It shall review the progress made by promoting agencies in promotion of FPOs, market linkage, compliance with statutory guidelines and achieving sustainability.
Similarly, the District Level Monitoring Committees, headed by the respective District Development Commissioner as the Chairman, shall be monitoring the scheme at district level with effective coordination among the stakeholders.
It shall identify grass root level constraints and suggest solution to the Apex Level Consultative Committee for policy level interventions besides ensuring proper implementation of the scheme at ground level and ensure consultation among all the departments.
