SRINAGAR, June 27: The cab operators operating to Jammu and Ladakh from Srinagar today demanded that they should be allowed to start their operations, assuring that they will follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) amid COVID-19 pandemic.
The operators said that they have been approaching the authorities regarding this, however, so far, nothing has been done with regard to the resumption of the services from Srinagar.
Fayaz Ahmad Padder, President TRC Jammu bound sumo operators said if other states in the country have started the operation of the transport what is stopping the administration of J&K in allowing the same.
“Whatever SOPs we will be asked to follow, we will do that but at least allow us to operate; there are several other aspects associated which are getting affected as we are lying idle for last many months now,” he said.
He said that at least 300 families are getting affected due to the non-operational of services as of now. “We don’t want to suffer our families anymore and appeal the administration to allow us to operate from Srinagar to Jammu,” he said.
The transporters said that they approached the Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar as well as the Additional Deputy Commissioner, but they have not decided anything on it so far. “10 days have passed since we met them, but the situation remains to be the same,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Srinagar-Jammu-Ladakh Taxi Services Owners and Drivers Union TRC headed by Waseem Ashraf Bhat also attempted to stage a protest today, however, the bid to register the protest was foiled.
The transporters said that the buses are ferrying passengers from Atari and that too without any social distancing and that they fail to understand why only the private transport owners are being made to suffer.
The transporters have appealed the higher-ups, especially the Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu to look into the matter and put an end to their miseries.
