Gupta’s concern over increasing road accidents

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Apr 13: Voicing his concern about the increasing road accidents, former Union Minister and MLA, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has observed that it is a serious aspersion over the functioning of the traffic arrangements and more so, the reflection on the functioning and policies of the Government itself.
Expressing his grief over the sad accident in Kishtwar area in which several lives have been lost and injuries to many others. He said that such incidents were going on and the deaths on the roads are more even than that of the killings by the terrorists.  But it is a pity that the ruling leaders after every painful accident convey condolences and sympathies with the bereaved families rather than taking effective steps to check such horrible killings.
More than this, he said the Government had no policy to provide relief and succour to the affected families. Everything is left at the whims and mercy of the ruling leaders.
Prof. Gupta pleaded for a well framed policy to provide relief to the sufferers and also insurance of the passengers in addition to effective traffic arrangements and improving the condition of roads.
But not to say of far off places even in this capital city of Jammu the congestion and the traffic chaos is worsening, and there seems lack of will and skill to set the things in order, he added and stressed for practical steps.
