16 cops from Kathua, Reasi, Samba, Pak-returned woman among 45 test +ve

Army, BSF, CRPF jawans, SPO too report positive

JAMMU, June 29: Sixteen police constables including eight deployed in Police Training School (PTS) Kathua, five in School Training Centre (STC) Talwara and three in Samba district besides an Army soldier, a BSF jawan, a CRPF personnel, one Special Police Officer (SPO), a Pakistan-returned woman and a six-year-old infant were among 45 persons who tested positive for Coronavirus in Jammu region today while 55 patients were treated and discharged from various COVID hospitals.
The Union Territory of Ladakh, however, reported only one Corona positive case today.
Eight police personnel who had returned to duty in the PTS Kathua after availing leave today tested positive for COVID-19, Deputy Commissioner Kathua OP Bhagat told the Excelsior and said the cops were sampled when they joined back their duties. All of them were asymptomatic.
Five more persons were tested positive for the virus in Kathua district and all of them too had travel history and were under administrative quarantine at different places.
Few days back, four police constables had tested Corona positive in the PTS Kathua.
Meanwhile, 1362 persons entered Jammu and Kashmir from Lakhanpur during last 24 hours.
A Pakistan-returned woman and an SPO were among seven persons who tested COVID positive in Rajouri district today.
The woman hailing from Rajouri had returned from Pakistan via Wagah border and was tested positive for the virus, SSP Rajouri Chandan Kohli said.
A SPO posted in Police Post Peeri at Koteranka and five other persons hailing from Jamola Koteranka, Swari Koteranka, Dodasanwalla and Thannamandi with travel history of Pune, New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu also tested positive in Rajouri district.
Three persons reported Corona positive in Udhampur district.
District Magistrate Piyush Singla said all three positive cases were reported during random sampling in Red Zone village of Amroh in Ramnagar tehsil of Udhampur district.
They include a 6-year-old boy and two women aged 30 and 60 years. All of them have been shifted to COVID hospitals.
Eight persons have tested positive for the virus in Samba district.
SSP Samba Shakti Pathak said two of them were posted in Police Training Centre (PTC) Vijaypur and two others were BSF jawan and an Indian Reserve Police (IRP) constable. Other positives of the district were locals with travel history and under administrative quarantine.
Five police constables of Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police (JKAP) deployed in School Training Centre STC) Talwara in Reasi district tested positive for COVID-19 today. They hailed from Srinagar, Baramulla and Kupwara and had returned to duty after leave.
Two persons including an Army soldier from Mendhar and a civilian belonging to village Dehra Mohra, Surankote in Poonch district today tested positive.
Three persons including a CRPF jawan of Bihar, who had returned to duty and two persons from Gandoh including a shopkeeper reported positive for COVID in Doda district.
In Jammu district, a 45-year-old man from Patoli Brahamana and a 28-year-old woman from Bahu Fort tested positive.
On the other, wife and son of a Bohri Talab Tillo man who had died of Coronavirus in the GMC Jammu and whose two nephews had died during his cremation at Sidhra, today recovered from the virus and were discharged from the Chest Diseases Hospital, Bakshi Nagar, Medical Superintendent Dr Rajeshwar Sharma said.
One person tested positive in Ramban district.
Meanwhile, a total of 55 persons were today treated and discharged from various COVID Hospitals in Jammu region.
Of them, 28 belonged to Ramban, 11 Jammu, seven Rajouri, four Kathua, three Udhampur and two to Samba district.
According to official figures, Jammu region now has 1579 total and 432 active cases. There have been 1132 recoveries and 11 deaths in the region.
Meanwhile, one person today tested Corona positive in Kargil district in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
With this, total number of Corona patients in Ladakh has reached 964 including 262 in Leh and 702 in Kargil. There were 347 active cases in Ladakh—98 in Leh and 249 in Kargil.
As many as 616 patients have been treated and discharged in Ladakh including 163 in Leh and 453 in Kargil while there was one Corona casualty.
Of total positive cases, 13 have been admitted in COVID hospitals, 306 were in home isolation and 28 in COVID Care Centres.
