JAMMU, Apr 13: On the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi, the Jammu Samajik Manch organized 11th function here at S. D. Higher Secondary Kanya Vidyalya at Julaka Mohalla here today.
Chairman, Legislative Council, Amrit Malhotra was the chief guest and Ashok Khajuria, MLA, presided over the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Malhotra while extending warm greetings to the people of the State wished that Baisakhi will be a harbinger of peace, progress and prosperity for the State and its people.
Highlighting the rich traditions of amity and brotherhood in the State, the Chairman said that co-existence of different faiths and cultures, symbolizes the high values of humanism.
The students of the institution presented variety of cultural programmes on the occasion.
Renowned singers of Jammu, Uttam Singh, in his comedian style and Purnima Sharma with her melodious voice mesmerized the audience. A skit was also presented by the local artists.
Later, the Chairman distributed cheques of financial assistance and blankets among the poor, destitute and widows as a goodwill gesture.
Besides, the civil society members, senior citizens, students and a large number of people attended the function.
