Negligent death in GMC: people protest

JAMMU, Apr 13: The corridors of the Government Medical College (GMC) hospital once again witnessed the massive furore followed by ransacking by the aggrieved relatives of a youth, who allegedly died due to doctors’ negligence in the hospital this evening.
The aggrieved family members smashed down the window pans, tables and chairs kept in the doctors cabins in the emergency wing of the hospital.
The family members also beat up Casualty Medical Officer (CMO), who was on duty and some other doctors present in the emergency wing of the hospital.
Amid slogans, they staged a massive protest against the GMC authorities and demanded action against the doctors responsible for the death of their kin.
To save their life, the doctors on the duty fled from the spot to the safest place, due to which the emergency services in the hospital came to standstill for hours together.
Due to non-availability of the doctors and para medical staff, the other patients also faced hardships. Sensing the situation to take serious turn, many of them were immediately shifted by their kin to private clinics.
However, on the directives of officiating SSP Rajeshwar Singh, Station House Officers (SHOs) from different police stations including Janipur, Pacca Danga, Bakshi Nagar, Satwari rushed to the spot to control the situation from taking more critical turn.
As per inputs the deceased Vishal Sharma (18), son of Tarsem Lal of Loura, Phylian Mandial, was seriously injured, when the motorcycle he was riding, was hit by an auto near Suwanjana.
The profusely bleeding Vishal was rushed to Suwanjana hospital and was later referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for advance treatment.
During treatment, Vishal succumbed to his injuries and after that his relatives went on rampage and thrashed the window panes of the hospital and also severally thrashed Casualty Medical Officer (CMO).
The brother of the deceased youth identified as Vinay received hand injury, while thrashing window pans of the hospital.
The atmosphere in the hospital remained tense, as senior officials from the hospital and the civil administration side failed to visit the spot and pacify the agitators.
Meanwhile, due to non-availability of the doctors in the emergency wing, one more patient identified as 55-year-old Gulshan, son of Bodh Raj of Panthal, died.
The family members of the deceased said that they admitted Gulshan in the hospital, as he was having blood vomiting.
They alleged that there is no proper care of the patients in the hospital and due to this they lost their family member.
