SAMBA, July 1: Hundreds of industrial workers under the banner of Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) held protest demonstration at Bari Brahmana against the administration for converting the 50 bedded ESIC Model Hospital Bari Brahmana for Corona positive patients.
The protesting workers lambasted authorities for converting the Hospital for Corona positive patients without considering the plights of the workers who are making monthly contributions along with their employers for getting health care facilities. They submitted a memorandum to Chief Secretary, Chairman Disaster Management for de notifying the ESI hospital from COVID- 19 to normal hospital.
While addressing the workers, Harbans Choudhary (senior leader and BMS representative in ESIC Advisory Board and Member ESI Hospital Development Committee) said that from the last more than one month workers insured persons, their families and pregnant female employees are suffering as 500 to 600 OPD patients are being deprived from treatment. He said that indoor services have also been suspended and no any alternative arrangements have been made.
Ashok Choudhary (general secretary, BMS) said that a number of times they brought the issue in writing to the notice of the LG, MoS in PMO Dr Jitendra Singh and other authorities but till date no any action has been taken which shows that administration is not serious in solving the public grievances.
“A number of accidents happened during this period but workers were forced to get treatment privately under compelled circumstances and workers are not in a position to pay the bills,” he said and demanded that the Hospital be converted to normal hospital and 2-4 corona positive cases be shifted to other hospitals.
He said till de-notification of ESI hospital, Hospital administration should be directed to refer all the patients to its empanelled hospitals otherwise workers will have no option except on sitting hunger strike in front of the Hospital.
