Online extension lecture series on Research Methodology concludes at KU

SRINAGAR, July 2: The Department of Social Work, University of Kashmir organized an online extension lecture series on Research Methodology for the research scholars in Social Sciences.
Eminent professors and researchers from all over the country delivered the lectures. The experts had an expertise in Qualitative, Quantitative and Mixed Methodology Research Approaches and the lecture series covered a range of topics from Understanding Qualitative Research, to the importance of Observation in Field Work and using Mixed Methods Research.
The resource persons included Prof P C Joshi, Head of the Department of Anthropology, University of Delhi. He is also the Pro Vice- Chancellor, University of Delhi. He delivered his lecture on the topic ‘Doing Qualitative Research’.
Prof Zubair Meenai, who is the Honorary Director, Centre for Early Childhood Development and Research, Jamia Milia Islamia- New Delhi, also gave his lecture on ‘Conceptualising Research’. Other eminent speakers included Dr Venkatesh Chakrapani who is the Chairperson at Sexuality and Health Research and Policy- Chennai. He spoke extensively on the ‘Qualitative Data Analysis, Writing Qualitative Research and Mixed Methodology Research’.
Dr Abhiruchi Ohja, who is working as an Assistant Professor, Department of Politics and Governance, Central University of Kashmir, gave her lecture on ‘Coding and Analysis in Qualitative Research’. The lecture on ‘Observation in Field Work’ was given by Dr Chakraverti Mahajan, who is working as an Assistant Professor, Department of Anthropology- University of Delhi. The last lecture was given today on ‘Using Mixed Methods Research’ by Prof Bula Bhadra, who is Head of the Department of Sociology – Sister Nivedita University, Kolkatta.
Prof Tareak A Rather, Director of Central Asian Studies, KU, also gave his concluding remarks. The lectures were moderated by Dr Aadil Bashir, Coordinator, Department of Social Work-KU and Dr Sarfaraz, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work-KU. Scholars from various departments of Social Sciences and other universities joined the lectures and benefitted from the same.
Earlier, the Department also organized a national webinar on Psycho-Social Wellbeing during Covid-19, which was inaugurated by the Registrar, Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir. In this webinar, Prof Naveen Kumar from NIMHANS, Bangalore, gave an extensive lecture on handling the mental health and Psycho-social issues arising out of Covid-19. Dr Sheikh Shoaib, a consultant psychiatrist at JLNM, Srinagar, also spoke about the mental health and Covid-19 outbreak in Kashmir.
