PCB seizes 39 cartons of SUP cups

SRINAGAR, July 3: Continuing its raids on sale, stocking and use of banned polythene and single use plastic (SUP), the J&K Pollution Control Board, Srinagar conducted a raid in Babdam area of Srinagar today and seized huge quantity of banned SUP.
Around 39 cartons full of SUP Cups (approximately 1.17 lakh in number) were seized. The raid was conducted by a joint team of PCB Srinagar headed by Divisional Officer Mohammad Yousuf and Forest Protection Force personnel led by Deputy Inspector Zafar Inayat.
The raid was conducted under the directions of Chairman J&KPCB Suresh Chugh and under the supervision of Member Secretary B M Sharma and Regional Director Rafi Ahmad Bhat. The offender was compound challaned on spot and a penalty of Rs 50,000 was imposed and recovered from the violator.
The J&K Pollution Control Board authorities have made fervent appeal to all the traders, shopkeepers and the public to avoid use of banned polythene and single use plastic items made of non – biodegradable materials.
